History of Mendon Greenhouse and Florist
Mendon Greenhouse & Florist began with Mr. and Mrs. Parkinson, during the 1940s. The Parkinson family lived in the house at 7 Hastings Street and ran a successful dairy operation. However, they also grew Carnations and Chrysanthemums in the adjoining field and three greenhouses.
In the 1970’s, brothers Dean and Cal Wiegers and their families purchased the house and greenhouses. At the same time, the Ober family purchased the dairy barn and developed it into the Mendon Country Gift Barn, now the Blessing Barn.
In 1995, Colleen Oncay and her family (with her father, Craig Wallace) purchased the greenhouse operation from the Wiegers family as a “labor of love,” and set about operating, updating, and expanding it.
After nearly two decades, Colleen is still hard at work in her garden center and flower shop, and still loves it! Why not stop by, take a look, and be inspired by the unexpectedly wide variety of floral, landscape, and garden possibilities?
